Design: Cysticercoid samples were obtained from the dissection of infected beetles in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) after 2 to 3 months post-infection. Total cellular RNA was isolated and purified with TRI Reagent (Sigma Aldrich) in combination with the Direct-zol RNA Miniprep (Zymo Research), including the DNase treatment step to remove contamination with genomic DNA. RNA yield and quality were measured through an Agilent 2100 Bioanalyzer (Model G2939B). Libraries from individual samples were sequenced with Illuminas HiSeq4000 at Macrogen (Korea), by means of 100 bp paired-end reads. Libraries were prepared from total RNA, using poly(A) enrichment of mRNAs. Libraries were barcoded and multiplexed for sequencing.
